Harlem One Stop, a community-based nonprofit, is pleased to share that we have been awarded funding from NYC Small Business Services’ (SBS) Avenue NYC program for FY2026 to conduct a Commercial District Needs Assessment (CDNA) in Hamilton Heights–West Harlem. Business Finances 1: Getting Started
Financial management can be the most intimidating part of running a business. The goal of this course is to reveal that it need not be.
Intended for entrepreneurs unfamiliar with business financial management, Business Finances 1 introduces its key terms and concepts in everyday language. During this course, you will: • Develop an understanding of basic business financial terms, such as profit, cash flow, and gross margin. • Work with basic financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements. • Define the common business expenses at both the startup and operating stages. • Calculate gross margins, breakeven points, and profit goals using a case study business. This course is the fourth module in the NYC Department of Small Business Services’ (SBS) five-course Introduction to Entrepreneurship series.

Commercial Lease Assistance Program Clinic
If your business needs help with a commercial lease issue in New York City, you may be eligible for free legal services. Through this and our upcoming free workshops and legal clinics, SBS' Commercial Lease Assistance Program will assist those who struggle with commercial lease related issues. These clinics allow you to have a one-on-one session with a Build Up Justice NYC attorney to discuss any of your legal questions or concerns regarding your commercial lease. Upon registration, you will be provided a Calendly link to select a specific time for your appointment. Please be sure to pick the 30 minute window that works best for you. Who Should Attend This Clinic:
  • Small business owners looking to negotiate a new commercial lease agreement
  • Small business owners seeking advice or counsel on a commercial lease matter
  • Small business owners experiencing harassment , overcharges or other non-litigation actions from a landlord
